Hailey Bieber Claps Back at Trolls Saying She Looks Trans: ‘Why Do You Think That’s a Diss?’

At this point, Hailey Bieber is used to seeing insults about her online, but in a new interview, she pointed out there’s one particular brand of disparaging comment that she just doesn’t understand.

Appearing on Owen Thiele’s In Your Dreams podcast on Friday (Oct. 24), Bieber began talking about rude comments shared about her online, saying that one particular type of comment never made much sense to her. “When people are trying to be mean, they’re like, ‘She looks trans.’ And I’m like, ‘Why do you think that’s a diss?’” Bieber asked.

The beauty guru continued, pointing out that those transphobic lines of “attack” only make her feel better about herself when she reads them. “As if being trans is a diss, some of the most beautiful women in the world and men in the world are trans. So I just don’t take that offensively at all.”

Bieber is just one of a number of celebrities who have been exposed to “transvestigation,” an online trend in which users create conspiracy theories that cisgender public figures are secretly trans, presenting pseudo-scientific “evidence” based on their physical appearance in photographs. LGBTQ+ advocacy group GLAAD has classified “transvestigation” as a hate term, pointing out examples including campaigns against Olympic boxer Imane Khelif and French first lady Brigitte Macron that have resulted in real-life consequences.

Elsewhere on the podcast, Hailey also chatted with Thiele about whether or not she and her husband, Justin Bieber, were talking about having more kids since the birth of their son, Jack Blues, in August 2024. “I know I want more than one, but I’m not in a rush,” she said. “I always knew I wanted to be a mom, though … The older I’ve gotten and now that I have a kid, I think any decision anyone makes about having them or not having them is totally amazing.”
