Can HUNTR/X’s ‘Golden’ Take Back No. 1 From ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ Next Week? | The Contenders
Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” debuted at No. 1 this week, and Billboard chart experts Trevor Anderson, Xander Zellner, and Danielle Pascual debate whether Taylor Swift will be able to hold on to the top spot until Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” or Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” takes over for the holidays, or if HUNTR/X’s “Golden” will reclaim its throne next week.
Narrator:
‘The Life of a Showgirl’ is all people can talk about. Will “The Fate of Ophelia” have a big second week? Is Taylor Swift going to continue to dominate the charts, or can “Golden” break through again? Or will the next Swiftie break have to wait until the holiday season? We’re giving you the rundown on some of the contenders on this week’s Hot 100. “The Fate of Ophelia” made it’s debut at No. 1.
Danielle Pascual:
I think “The Fate of Ophelia” is gonna stay at No. 1.
Xander Zellner:
Definitely. I think it’ll stay at No. 1.
Narrator”
But are we still staying with “Golden”?
Danielle Pascual:
“Golden,” baby.
Trevor Anderson:
Oh, is that – that’s the song? That’s the song. Well, certainly, obviously, like, you know, the former No. 1 is always the top contender to get back in the top 10. We’ll see. I mean, I think they’re right. I mean, obviously the streaming will be so big for “The Fate of Ophelia,” we’ll see how it picks up on the radio. It already had a crazy debut. So as strong as it already is at radio support with the streaming should keep it there for a while. Looking far out, but sort of the “Anti-Hero” vein. Is this the one of those things where Taylor comes in dominates, maybe all the way to the Christmas season? Not sure whose album is really coming out that could challenge in the next couple of weeks. Could be one of those things where Taylor runs Q4 all the way until Mariah Carey makes that move.
Xander Zellner:
Brenda Lee. We can’t forget Brenda Lee, who got there.
Narrator:
Shout out to the Brenda stans. Let us know which contenders you’ll be listening to on repeat, and check in with us next week when we reveal the Billboard Hot 100.
