Billboard and Platoon Celebrate the Power of Independence at Latin Music Week 2025
Billboard returned to Miami for the 36th annual Latin Music Week, kicking things off on Monday, October 20. Recognized as the industry’s premier gathering of Latin artists, executives, and tastemakers, the event once again underscored the genre’s unstoppable global influence and deep cultural roots in the U.S.
This year, Billboard reunited with global independent record label Platoon to celebrate the artists shaping the next wave of Latin music. Known for its artist-first approach and long-term development strategy, Platoon used the week to showcase its growing Latin roster, one built on authenticity, independence, and creative freedom.
The partnership came to life through “The Power of Independence Presented by Platoon,” a panel exploring how artists can take their music from A&R to release. The session featured artist Lenny Tavárez, producers Yan and Yon MadMusick, and Pinky Mordan, with Billboard’s Ingrid Fajardo moderating the conversation. Together, they dove into the creative and business strategies behind building a career that balances artistry with independence. Lenny is currently collaborating with Platoon on an upcoming project.
Later that day, Platoon amped up the energy with its Emerging Artist Showcase, featuring a standout performance by Colombian artist, Golden. Open to attendees on a first-come basis, the showcase offered a glimpse at the next generation of Latin talent, raw, diverse, and ready to make their mark. Golden’s set included fan favorite tracks like “Shakira,” “Otra Nota,” and more.
