Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary’ Hits No. 1 on Adult Contemporary Chart

Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” adds another chart achievement, hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary radio airplay survey (dated Oct. 25).

In September, the song, on Atlantic Records, became the longest-leading hit ever on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, running up its reign to 16 weeks at No. 1. It surpassed Ace of Base’s “The Sign,” which had held the record since 1994, when it ruled for 14 weeks.

Extra extraordinary “Ordinary” chart action: Warren’s smash also spends a 21st week at No. 1 on Adult Pop Airplay, one-upping The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (in 2020) for the longest command for a song by a lead male soloist. Overall, just three songs have led longer than “Ordinary”: Santana’s “Smooth,” featuring Rob Thomas (25 weeks, 1999-2000), Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” (23 weeks, 2023-24) and The Calling’s “Wherever You Will Go” (23 weeks, 2001-02).

“Ordinary” previously topped the all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks and finished at No. 1 on the Songs of the Summer chart.

“Ordinary” leads Adult Contemporary with 11.3 million in audience, according to Luminate, making it the most heard song at the format Oct. 10-16. (As of this week, the chart is based on audience, after being measured by plays, to better reflect songs’ overall reach and impact. For example, a play on a radio station in morning drive in a major market now counts toward the chart more than an overnight play in a smaller market.)

Meanwhile, “Ordinary” is the first song released in 2025 to top Adult Contemporary this year. It’s also just the second track to ascend to the summit this year, after Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” in March. Last year by late October, two songs had also hit No. 1 for the first time, as the format continues to rely heavily on catalog favorites.
