Chance The Rapper Looks to the ‘Star Line’ to Announce His First Album in Six Years
It’s been six years since Chance The Rapper’s last album, The Big Day, but Lil Chano is gearing up to return with another LP next month.
Chance announced plans for Star Line on Thursday (July 31), which will hit streaming services on Aug. 15. “Star Line @bbreaux For my fans. Order at chance stuff dot com,” the Chicago native wrote while revealing the cover art, which finds Chance reuniting with Brandon Breaux.
Breaux served as the illustrator for Chance’s 10 Day, Acid Rap and Coloring Book mixtapes, and he adds some eerie outdoor artwork to the next chapter of their collaborative collection.
Per a press release, Star Line will follow “Chance’s global journey, artistically, spiritually, and physically, over the past six years. Created with longtime producer DexLvL and shaped by travels to Ghana, Jamaica, and art fairs around the world, Star Line blends hip-hop, soul and experimental sounds with lyrical meditations on identity, resilience and legacy.”
The statement continued: “While Chance has circled the globe in search of new perspectives, the project remains grounded in the worldview that has always defined his art: a deep, unshakable connection to Chicago and to Black culture across the diaspora.”
Chance The Rapper kicked off the album rollout with the release of “Tree” earlier in July featuring assists from Lil Wayne and Smino, which interpolates India.Arie’s “Video” for a soulful chorus.
Chance helms the director’s seat for the visual as he, Smino and Weezy pay a dispensary owned by Black women a visit.
