Busta Rhymes Set to Be Honored With Hollywood Walk of Fame Star: ‘Everything Is Divine Timing’
Busta Rhymes will receive his gold star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during a ceremony slated for Friday afternoon (Aug. 1) in Los Angeles.
Radio legend Big Boy will serve as emcee for the Hollywood Blvd. ceremony while LL Cool J, comic Chris Rock and Chuck D are locked in as guest speakers.
“Thirty-five years of professional recording is a long earning of my rite to passage. I’m just glad they decided it’s time for me. Everything is divine timing,” Busta told CBS Mornings on Monday (July 28). “For me, the longer that you waited, the longer that my speech is gonna be.”
However, Bus-a-Bus remained tight-lipped on some of the special guests he’s expecting to see in the crowd. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the Walk of Fame website.
Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez championed Busta in a statement: “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will be adding Busta Rhymes, one of hip-hop’s most enduring and electrifying voices, as a new member of Hollywood’s iconic sidewalk.”
She continued: “His talent and influence are undeniable. His star on the Walk of Fame will stand as a testament to his lasting impact on hip-hop music and how important it is to the American culture.”
On the heels of being honored with the 2,818th star on the Walk of Fame, Busta is also gearing up to deliver his Vengeance album in September.
“Everything you have known to love me for is going to be part of this package, but there’s gonna be a whole lot of things that I’m finally becoming comfortable enough to share and add to the legacy,” he said of his 12th studio LP on CBS Mornings.
Even at 53 years old, the grind doesn’t stop for Busta, who’s heading to the silver screen this week as he stars in the upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun alongside Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, which hits theaters on Aug. 1.
“The thing I loved the most of experiencing the film was that the director [Akiva Schaffer] gave me a lot of opportunity to improvise,” the New York rap legend explained. “We had an incredible amount of fun on the set.”
