James Marriott Bests Oasis & Sabrina Carpenter for His First U.K. No. 1 Album
James Marriott has seen off competition from Oasis and Sabrina Carpenter to earn his first U.K. No. 1 album on Friday (June 20).
The social media star and musician hits the top spot on the Official Albums Chart with Don’t Tell the Dog, his second studio LP. The Swiss-born, Brighton-based star last appeared on the chart in 2023 with his debut album Are We There Yet? (No. 17)
Speaking to the Official Charts Company, Marriott said: “Thank you so, so much for my first-ever official No. 1 album. It’s been such an amazing week traveling up and down the country, doing a little show. I’m just mind blown! Thank you so much for supporting me over the last week, and the last few years. This No. 1 award goes out to all of you!”
With just a fortnight to go until the July 4 opening night of Oasis’ Live ‘25 reunion tour in Cardiff, Wales, the Gallagher brothers’ greatest hits collection Time Flies… 1994-2009 finishes the week at No. 2, up 12 places from last week. The compilation, first released in 2010, hit the No. 1 upon release and has been a mainstay on the charts ever since. Earlier this week the band announced details of pop-up shops through the U.K. and Ireland to run alongside their upcoming tour dates.
Sabrina Carpenter has achieved a new chart record as Short n’ Sweet finishes the week at No. 3. At 43 weeks, Short n’ Sweet is now the solo studio album with the longest consecutive top 5 streak in U.K. Official Albums Chart history. Ed Sheeran’s 2021 LP = (Equals) previously held the record at 42 weeks.
Elsewhere there’s debuts for The Cure with Mixes Of A Lost World, a remix LP of 2024 chart-topper Songs Of A Lost World (No. 9); Van Morrison with Remembering Now, his 45th top 40 LP (No. 11); Lil Tecca’s fifth album DOPAMINE (No. 17); and U.K. rap star AJ Tracey with Don’t Die Before You’re Dead (No. 37), his fourth top 40 album.
