Which Pop Stars Won April 2025?

This April, the Billboard charts have been largely static — with a couple big exceptions, for which we are thankful — but pop music keeps moving. This was a month for big festivals, with two weekends of Coachella and one of Stagecoach all back to back out in Indio, Calif., and of just-as-big tour kickoffs, with both our Greatest Pop Star of 2024 and our Greatest Pop Star of the entire 21st Century launching their most recent treks. And in between, of course, there were plenty of new releases and unexpected breakout hits to help keep things interesting.

This week, we relive all of it through our extended look at the Greatest Pop Stars of April 2025. Host Andrew Unterberger is joined by regular guests Stephen Daw and Eric Frankenberg to share and debate our respective top five lists, while also naming some honorable mentions, some disappointments, and some artists who we’re looking forward to in the months to come. (If you missed our recaps of the first three months of 2025, you can find our January episode hereour February episode here and our March episode here.)

Among the topics discussed: Is Brat Summer actually finally over — and is Lorde Summer really its most likely successor? Does Doechii headlining All Things Go mean that even bigger headlining assignments wait her? Who’s getting the bigger bump off “All the Way,” BigXthaPlug or Bailey Zimmerman? What the hell was that Lana Del Rey song from Stagecoach about Morgan Wallen and her millions of Spotify followers? Is 34 seconds of “Steve’s Lava Chicken” still too much Jack Black? And what can Katy Perry do to smooth things out in her career a pretty bumpy last year or so?

Check it out above — along with a YouTube playlist of some of the most memorable pop star moments of April, all of which are discussed in the podcast — and subscribe to the Greatest Pop Stars podcast on Apple Music or Spotify (or wherever you get your podcasts) for weekly discussions every Thursday about all things related to pop stardom!
