Miley Cyrus Says Harrison Ford Talked Her Out of Touring ‘Something Beautiful’
Something Beautiful…in the woods? Miley Cyrus opened up in a new interview on Wednesday (May 21) about how she scrapped an overly ambitious plan for her new album thanks to some advice from Harrison Ford.
Speaking to Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the superstar explained that her original idea for the project involved performing shows “in all the forests and at the pyramids” and other far-flung locales around the world.
However, when she ran the plan by Harrison Ford at their Disney Legends Awards ceremony last summer, the iconic actor had some thoughts. “He goes, ‘You really want to go and set up in a forest and do what?’” she said. “He’s like, ‘You going to bring a crew?’ … He’s like, ‘Looks expensive.’ And I came back to the trailer, I was like, ‘Guys, we’re not performing in the forest anymore. Harrison Ford made a lot of sense.’”
Instead, Cyrus opted to turn Something Beautiful into a full-length visual album, which she described in a March trailer as a “one of a kind pop opera.”
“The film is my way of touring,” the Grammy winner continued. “That’s why I’m putting it into theaters, because it’s something you can watch night after night and you get to discover and you get to feel like you’re a part of a performance, but I don’t have to tax myself in that way.”
Preceded by singles “End of the World” and “More to Lose” as well as “Prelude” and the title track, Something Beautiful is set to be unveiled in full on May 30 via Columbia Records, and will hit theaters across the U.S. and Canada for one night only on June 21. As Cyrus revealed earlier this week, the studio set’s 13-song tracklist will also feature collaborations with Brittany Howard (“Walk of Fame”) and Naomi Campbell (“Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved”).
