Grupo Firme Sing About Heartbreak on New Album ‘Evolución’: Stream It Here
Grupo Firme gave a hint of what their sophomore album would be like back in May 2024, when they released “El Beneficio de la Duda” showcasing greater maturity in their sound and interpretation. Almost a year later, the Tijuana band dropped their long-awaited LP on Thursday (May 8), fittingly titled Evolución.
“We’ve accomplished things we never imagined,” lead vocalist Eduin Caz says in an interview with Billboard Español. “We started in nightclubs and have sold out stadiums. Today, we want to show another side of Grupo Firme without losing our essence, but above all, enjoy what we do.”
Released under its label Music VIP Entertainment and distributed by Virgin Music, Evolución arrives hand-in-hand with “Alégale al Umpire,” a track that retains the essence of the regional Mexican group while incorporating more orchestrated sounds. “In an argument, you’ll never win against a woman. So, like in boxing, you need an umpire to resolve it. That’s what the song is about,” Caz explains.
The 14-track set includes collaborations with regional Mexican stars like Carolina Ross and Joss Favela, but also features iconic pop singer Gloria Trevi, who teams up with Jhonny Caz (third vocalist) for the heartbreak anthem “Súfrele.” “The duet with Ms. Gloria Trevi is something phenomenal,” says Eduin Caz, adding that they have “a very beautiful relationship with her” and that “recording in the studio was so much fun.”
Ross joins the band on “Todavía Te Amo,” transporting listeners with her sweetness to a romantic side of the genre that isn’t just about corridos. The lyrics, written by Horacio Palencia, are the cherry on top: “I feel a lump in my throat/ It’s the ‘I love you’ I want to tell you/ That’s why we’re speaking clearly now/ I must say that I’m still in love,” the song goes.
With Favela, they deliver the energetic “La Vida es Pa’ Gozarla,” which incorporates electric guitar and danceable sounds. “Joss Favela got involved in the making of the album as if it were his own,” Caz says. “He helped me with production, guided me during vocal recordings, and has been a great support. So we owed it to ourselves to do something together, and that’s how [this collaboration] came about.”
An additional surprise: “In a month, we’ll be unveiling a bonus track with Grupo Frontera,” Caz reveals exclusively, without providing further details. This would mark the second collaboration between the two groups after “El Amor de Su Vida,” which spent four weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart in 2023.
Evolución also includes “Decide,” “Quiere Llorar y No Puede,” “Luna,” “Cero Sentimientos,” “Hubiéramos,” “Según Mi Reloj,” “Segundas Partes,” “Quien La Viera,” and “Sobrepeso.” Each song is accompanied by an official video, all filmed in Europe a few weeks ago during a trip the band made before starting its La Última Peda Tour 2025.
