Saint Luke Interview

By Bridget Adams
Upcoming artist Saint Luke joined Ilana Epstein in the studio yesterday to break down the behind-the-scenes of his artistry and his upcoming EP Warrior of Solitude. After debuting his upcoming single “Comedown” on the air, he talked about how he wrote the song and how you can only run from emotions with substances and distractions for so long until you have to face them again. Music has always been a form of therapy for Saint Luke. Whether creating new beats or writing lyrics, it is that time alone in his room working that allows him to learn how to be alone again. The EP idea was born after a breakup when he had to re-learn how to be by himself again. This shedding of, as he said, “mutual personality” is reflected through the music’s moody yet adventurous feel of the music. He cited Mk.gee as one of the many influences for the record.
Saint Luke isn’t just an artist but also a senior in the Recording and Technology program at Syracuse University. He spoke about how he used to take solitude to an extreme. However, throughout his time at Syracuse, Saint Luke has been able to expand as an artist through collaboration and group performance. He has been very involved with the unique underground scene housed in off-campus house shows. Not only does he love watching this community come together for all these performances, but it has also helped him find his village that helps him with his projects. He built out different music video teams and shot the cover with help from his roommate and brother.
On April 24th, he is hosting a free EP listening party at Funk and Waffles. He was highly motivated to make his final show in Syracuse free so it would be more accessible. It will celebrate the EP, everyone, and everything that helped him reach this point over the past four years. There will be excellent openers, t-shirts, and CDs for sale so be sure to check itout!
