Syracuse takes down Florida State in first round of the ACC Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WSYR) — With an ACC Tournament run and a season on the line, 14-seed Syracuse men’s basketball held off 11-seed Florida State to come away with the 66-62 win.

Syracuse went into the break up 30-26 and would run out to a 16 point lead in the second half, but the Seminoles would cut the lead to three in the final seconds of the game. The Orange would hold on with Jyáre Davis and Kyle Cuffe both making a pair of free throws. to take the four-point win and advance to the second round of the tournament.

JJ Starling exploded in the second half, scoring 20 points, to lead the Orange with 27 points. Eddie Lampkin Jr. and Jyare Davis also finished in double digits combining for 28 points. As a team, Syracuse dominated on the glass grabbing 42 rebounds, 13 of them offensive rebounds. The Orange also had 44 points in the paint, only making two shots from beyond the arc all night.

Next up, Syracuse takes on 6-seed SMU on Wednesday, March 12, at 9:30 p.m.
