Update: Here’s where the snow will be
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – One thing is clear. The higher in elevation you are, the better your chance of seeing snow.
Here are the weather alerts that have changed
The Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for Madison, Cortland, Tompkins, and Chenango counties into Friday afternoon.
A Winter Weather Advisory are in effect for Southern Cayuga, Onondaga, Southern Oneida, and Lewis counties.
An area of low pressure/nor’easter continues to spin up toward New York City Thursday afternoon. This storm is going to deliver rain occasionally mixing with snow for most, including Syracuse, with little to no accumulation.
The potential of 2 to 6 inches of heavy, wet snow across the hills near and especially south of Rt. 20 which is where the Winter Storm Warning is in effect. Some spots over higher terrain could end up with closer to 10.” A coating to an inch or two is possible over parts of the Tug Hill and Adirondacks and in the Syracuse area there could be a coating to an inch on the grassy surfaces.
Roads across the higher terrain are at least somewhat slick and sloppy for the Friday morning commute.
Since temperatures will be marginally cold enough for snow over the hills, the snow is very heavy and wet which may cause some tree branches to come down and possibly produce isolated power outages.
In lower elevations from Syracuse northwest where accumulation are likely an inch or less and temperatures are above freezing the rest of tonight into Friday there are no travel concerns.
