Dallas Singer Jada Thomas Shot While Signing Autographs Following Performance

Texas singer Jada Arnell Thomas was shot following a performance in downtown Dallas on Saturday (Nov. 2).

Per NBC DFW, Thomas was signing autographs after the show at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters and wounded by gunfire from a person in the audience.

Billboard has reached out to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and Black Academy of Arts and Letters.

The 26-year-old was transported to a local hospital and reportedly is in stable condition. Police quickly apprehended suspect Micah Williams, and discovered a handgun. Williams, 26, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and taken to Dallas County Jail.

“It was a packed house, people were in line getting autographs and we heard this shot,” The Black Academy of Arts and Letters founder Curtis King relayed to NBC DFW. “It was unreal. It was like everything was in slow motion.”

An investigation is still ongoing and law enforcement didn’t make it clear if the assailant knew Thomas prior to the shooting.

King also posted a note to social media confirming that Thomas was “going to be okay” and hoped viewers would keep her in their prayers.

“Many of you know what happened yesterday with the shooting a TBAAL. Many of you already know it was Jada Thomas who was shot. Many of you have called and asked if there’s anything you can do,” King wrote. “She’s going to be okay! Also, pray for her mom, dad and the rest of her family.”

King continued: “It is eerie to know that we now live in the kind of world with people who seem to be bent on doing harm to other people, many times for no apparent and sensible reason.”
