Your Stories Q&A: Delta Sonic Car Wash proposal gets Town of Clay approval

TOWN OF CLAY (WSYR-TV) – You ask, we answer!

A common question to the Your Stories Team: What’s the status of the proposed Delta Sonic Car Wash off Route 31 in Clay?

After 18 months of going through the planning board process, the project has been given the green light.

Clay Planning Commissioner Mark Territo said the planning board approved the Delta Sonic at its June 12 meeting.

While construction hasn’t started, land has been cleared on the 10-acre site that sits near Kohl’s, and across the road from the Texas Roadhouse and Starbucks.

According to planning documents, the plan calls for a car wash, 36 gas pumps, outdoor and indoor vacuums, a convenience store, and a coffee shop/restaurant.

The renderings on file with the Town Planning Department show a Tim Hortons.

Once the Clay location is built and opens, it will be the fourth Delta Sonic in Onondaga County. The Clay one appears to be much larger in scale compared to the others.

To get more information on a construction timeline, NewsChannel 9 reached out to Delta Sonic’s corporate offices, based out of Buffalo, but we haven’t heard back.

In previous stories on the Delta Sonic coming to Clay, viewers from that area have joked and commented that the town doesn’t need another car wash.

About a mile down the road, a Niagara Car Wash and Precision Wash are located on Route 31, not far from Route 57. A new Splash Car Wash is also being built in that area.
