The heat is here; when does it leave?

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — For about a week the NewsChannel 9 Storm Team has been warning us about this heatwave we’re just in the beginning stages of.

My question, and I have to believe you’re wondering as well…when does this dragon’s breath of hot air end?

It looks like the worst of this heatwave will be Wednesday and Thursday. I included some maps of a new experimental product from the National Weather Service which looks at the heat risk for areas in the United States. All that you have to know is when we are in the purple. That’s the real nasty heat. The proverbial air that you can wear.

When I was younger I didn’t mind the heat. Now that I’m older and my multiple sclerosis has progressed, I try to avoid the heat as much as I can. You see when my body temperature goes up, my MS symptoms get worse. That is something I have grown to live with. Air conditioning is my friend.

It’s really cool to take the up-and-down slider bar and slide it left and right. You can see the heat spread east and clearly see that we’re in the heat.

I was looking at some weather maps this afternoon, and while the worst of the heat and humidity slides to our south Friday, the Storm Team’s planning forecast still has high temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees right through Sunday.

There is some indication that high temperatures will be in the 80s for much of next week.

So what do you do if you’re not a fan of the heat? Simply, stay indoors. Try to limit the time you spend outdoors.

If you do have to be out in the heat, please be sure to take frequent breaks.

If you ever have questions on the weather (aside from the forecast which the Storm Team handles) please don’t hesitate to hit me up by email: davelongley@localsyr.com

I would also be happy to discuss my journey with MS and how I keep going. 32 years and counting at NewsChannel 9.
