ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Six people were shot and an officer was injured after an argument erupted at MLK Park early Sunday morning.
Around 2:45 a.m., officers near the park heard what seemed like gunshots as the 911 center received calls of a person possibly shot. RPD said they found a 33-year-old man with one gunshot wound to his lower body. A tourniquet was applied to the victim and he was taken to the hopsital. His injuries were non life threatening.

Officers said they learned five more victims were found and treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. These include a 17-year-old male, an 18-year-old male, a 21-year-old male, a 25-year-old female, and a 20-year-old female. The last victim went to a private home before she was taken to a hospital.
Investigators said a group of people were hanging at the park after-hours when an argument started. Reportedly, at least one person pulled out a gun and fired into the crowd.
As officers were working to disperse the crowd, 38-year-old Joshua Sanchez blocked the officers and began to fight them. They said one officer was injured while trying to take Sanchez into custody. That officer was treated at a local hospital.
“When you have people that are actively fighting with officers who are trying to render medical attention, obviously that makes it that much harder,” said RPD Chief David Smith.
Sanchez was taken to the Monroe County Jail and was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, and second-degree harassment.
It’s not clear who fired the gun nor any further circumstances behind the shooting. RPD’s non fatal shooting unit is working to investigate the incident. An increased police presence will be in that area.
