Relief has arrived, but for how long?

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – The hot and humid stretch the past week is finally exiting CNY thanks to a Sunday night cold front passage. How cool is the start of the week going to be?

Cooler, less humid air building in!

A cold front moved through the region Sunday evening with a broken line of showers and a couple of embedded non-severe t-storms. The bigger story is the change in air masses and the relief blowing in on a gusty, 15 to 25 mph, northwest wind behind the cold front.

For Monday we expect temperatures only managing to get into the low 70s here in Syracuse while some spots southeast of Syracuse don’t even make it to 70°!

Gloomy and damp to start Monday?

Along with the cooler weather Monday look for plenty of clouds and even showers through early to mid-afternoon. You’ll also notice the much cooler weather even more so because of a gusty northwest wind that will gust past 20 mph. We dare say for a few hours it may have a look and feel of an early fall day. What a difference a day makes!

By later in the day, drier air weather is building in from the north and west so sunshine should slowly return to many parts of central New York come the evening. The clouds, however, remain stubborn southeast of Syracuse and that is why temperatures do not get out of the 60s there Monday.

Heat to temporarily return

The 60s and 70s don’t last long. Look for high temperatures to climb back into the mid-80s on Tuesday, but the good news is that the humidity is held in check.

We are closer to 90 and more humid Wednesday with a gusty breeze ahead of a new cold front Wednesday. That should lead to another round of scattered showers and t-storms.

Unlike last week, however, the heat and humidity does not stick and behind Wednesday’s cold front we return to drier and cooler weather with 70s for Thursday and 70s to near 80 on Friday.  Really pleasant early summer weather!
