Multiple illnesses affecting pets at SPCA of NNY

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A trio of illnesses are affecting pets at the SPCA of Northern New York in Watertown.

In an announcement from the SPCA’s Facebook page, positive cases of Canine Parvo Virus, Feline Panleukopenia Virus, and Coccidia, which is an intestinal parasite were reported at the Water Street location.

The good news is that the cases have been very mild and everyone is recovering well. However, we will be closing down the shelter to minimize exposure as well as thoroughly clean and disinfect our facility as a safety precaution.

If anyone has adopted a puppy or kitten from our main location in the last two weeks, and they are experiencing any vomiting or diarrhea please contact our medical department at veterinary.services@jeffersoncountyspca.org as well as your regular veterinarian.

The location’s public use dog park has not been exposed, but they do encourage everyone to ensure their pet is properly vaccinated when going into public spaces.

SPCA of NNY will re-evaluate on Tuesday and update everyone on the status of re-opening.
