Man arrested after trying to steal car with baby inside in Oswego Co.

FULTON, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Around 6:30 p.m. on June 16, New York State Police were called to a Kwik Fill gas station at 2718 State Route 3 in Volney after a man tried to steal a vehicle.
State Police say Ronald Canfield, a 35-year-old man from Fulton, drove into the gas station erratically and pulled up behind a vehicle pumping gas.
Canfield then jumped into the driver’s seat, trying to steal the vehicle that also had a 1-year-old child in the back passenger’s seat.
After realizing there were no keys in the ignition, Canfield got back into his vehicle and drove away, said NYSP.
A few minutes later, a trooper saw Canfield run a stop sign and tried to pull him over. Canfield did not pull over, and the trooper pursued him.
Canfield then pulled into a Fastrac gas station on State Route 264 and started to run away, NYSP said.
After a short chase, the trooper tased and arrested Canfield. He was taken to Oswego County Jail and is pending arraignment.
Canfield is charged with:
- Unlawful fleeing of a police officer (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Reckless Driving
- Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Obstruct Governmental Administration (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Attempted Grand Larceny (Class E Felony)
