Lewis County woman charged in hit and run involving road crew member


LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 74-year-old Lowville woman is facing charges after allegedly striking a Department of Public Works crew member and driving away.
Lowville Village Police allege that Janise Markowski struck a village worker and left the scene on Tuesday morning. The alleged incident occurred on Stowe Street in the village.
Members of the work crew tried to stop Markowski, but were unable to do so. The crew member was knocked to the ground and complained of pain in the lower extremities, but remained on the job for the rest of the day.
She was ticketed for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and will appear in the Town of Lowville Court at a later date.
