Jeanette Epps posts picture showing her view of Syracuse from space

INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION (WSYR-TV) — Even from space, Syracuse native Dr. Jeanette Epps has a “hello” for her hometown.

“Hello Syracuse and the Finger Lakes region!” Epps wrote on Facebook and X (the former Twitter).

Epps posted the greeting Monday morning on social media along with a photograph showing her view of Central New York.

Through wispy clouds, the photograph shows Lake Ontario, the Finger Lakes to the south, Oneida Lake and the much smaller Onondaga Lake, which can guide people to adjacent Syracuse.

A crewmate, Dr. Tracy Dyson, outed Epps as a “closet photographer.”

Dyson joined Epps for an interview with NewsChannel 9 last week, which aired on this past weekend’s Newsmakers.

“She’s in competition with the other two guys for the most time in copula, taking shots,” Dyson told NewsChannel 9.

The International Space Station’s copula is a windowed dome to observe Earth.

Dyson added: “Doing special things with the camera, which, for me, I’m not much of a camera buff. I admire the courage she has to try things… in the limited free time we have up here.”
