J-D & Marcellus headed back to state finals in boys lacrosse


CORTLAND, N.Y. (WYSR-TV) —
Class C Semifinal:
Jamesville-DeWitt topped Honeoye Falls-Lima 23-7, thanks to a 7-1 second quarter burst in the Class C state semifinals on Wednesday night.
Former NewsChannel 9 Student-Athlete of the Week Sam Brazell paced the Red Rams attack with eight goals and three assists. Eleven different players scored for J-D in the win.
Jamesville-DeWitt is headed back to the state championship game, where they will face Section XI Champion Bayport-Blue Point on Saturday down at Hofstra University. The Red Rams are looking for their first state title since 2016.
Class D Semfinal:
Marcellus will join J-D down on Long Island for the second straight year. The Mustangs raced out to a 4-1 lead after one, and never looked backed defeating Aquinas Institute 15-8.
Sophomore Nick Rayfield found the back of the net seven times, adding three assists. Chris Doshna and Adam Rayfield chipped in four points each.
Marcellus will play in its second straight state title game. The Mustangs will look to knock off two-time defending state champion Cold Spring Harbor on Saturday at Hofstra University.
Class A Semifinal:
An historic season for Liverpool came to an end on Wednesday night, falling to McQuaid in the Class A semifinals 10-5.
Owen Salanger wrapped up an outstanding high school career, finishing with 17 saves.
