Fulton police make arrest in child abuse investigation

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Back on May 29, the Fulton Police Department began an investigation at the Fulton Junior High School into allegations of child abuse.

It was reported a school employee, who served as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a special education room, had slapped a 12-year-old disabled student in his face.

Police confirmed that the employee had slapped the child and that the employee was assigned to a different 14-year-old disabled student in the room, who required her constant supervision.

When school officials learned of the incident, they began to look into this employee themselves, which revealed further concerns regarding the same employee.

Witnesses say that this employee had repeatedly placed a cloth over the child’s head, completely covering his eyes, nose, and mouth while the student was experiencing episodes of coughing and vomiting.

On June 5, the employee surrendered herself to Fulton Police and is currently awaiting arraignment in Fulton City Court.

Anyone who may have further information regarding this case is asked to contact Sgt. Lucas Hollenbeck at (315) 592-3426.
