Clay man sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for gun and drug charges

CLAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Eugene Gilbert, a 30-year-old man from Clay, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison on Wednesday, June 12, on gun and drug charges.

As part of his previous guilty plea, Gilbert admitted that on November 4, 2021, he led DEA agents and other law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase on I-81 North.

Gilbert then abandoned his Dodge Ram pickup truck near the Village of Parish. In his truck, law enforcement officials found a bag with 50 grams of cocaine, 39 grams of cocaine base and six grams of fentanyl.

DEA agents also found a loaded 9mm pistol in a nearby dumpster.

Gilbert was found and arrested on December 17, 2021 after a second chase through Syracuse, DeWitt and on I-81 South.

As part of his guilty plea, Gilbert also admitted that he distributed fentanyl four separate times between October 14, 2021 to November 2, 2021.

Gilbert will also serve a term of post-supervised release of five years after he completes his prison sentence.
