After two months, Clay neighbors get some answers on the concrete batch plant project

CLAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A big night not just for the Clay community but for Goguen Realty sharing more information on the proposed batch plant, if they could get through interruptions.

“People got questions here on what he’s talking about right now,” yelled an audience member. “Now it’s another five minutes,” responded one of the companies’ representatives.
“Oh shut up!” the audience member yelled back.

Representatives for the company answered questions asked at April’s meeting after conducting studies.

Studies were handled at a batch plant in New Jersey with similar surroundings as there are in Clay.

“The bottom line is in controlled conditions, we found very little, negligible, controlled impacts. Most important the dust controls,” said an engineer for the project.

The batch plant will also have dust collectors to help mitigate that worry.

Representatives said 100s of trucks will be coming in and out of the area a day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We’re estimating that the existing trucks that will be on the roads is 265 on Wetzel, 508 on Morgan, 334 on Henry Clay to the North, 612 on Henry Clay to the south, and 403 on Buckley Road,” stated another representative.

And even a Clay native representing the project didn’t win the audience over.

“We’ve done the scientific research. We’ve done the studies. We’ve designed the plan. It’s environmentally safe,” said Clay native and real estate attorney Josh Rubeck. “It’s taken every safety measure available to it. And the only science before the board.”

“Pseudoscience!” a man yelled out.

“It’s not pseudoscience sir. These are professionals. Wait till the end,” Rubeck responded.

The homework is done. But the deliberation continues at the next meeting in two weeks on June 17.
