Which food services passed or failed health inspection April 14-20

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Onondaga County Health Department released its inspection reports for restaurants checked from April 14 through April 20.

Two food services failed:

• Dunkin’ – 977 East Brighton Avenue, Syracuse
• No. 1 Kitchen – 317 Nottingham Road, Syracuse

Dunkin’

Dunkin’ had eight violations, with one in critical condition.

Critical Condition: Foods not protected from contamination by other sources

The inspector found a spray bottle of chemicals stored next to in-use tea, and the tea was not individually wrapped.

This was corrected and the chemical was moved away from food and single-service items.

Food not protected in general: The inspector found food items stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler. A squeeze bottle of liquid food items was found not labeled. Food inside the top of the breakfast prep cooler was not stored with a cover when not in use.

Poor sanitary design, construction, and installation of equipment and utensils: The inspector found gaskets on the reach-in coolers along the front service line to be cracked, broken, and in poor repair. This caused cooler doors to not form a tight seal.

Improper cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment and utensils: The inspector found interior areas of the breakfast sandwich cooler were not clean, with excessive amounts of crumbs. Bulk bines for storing donut toppings such as sugars, and cinnamon sugars were not clean either. The bulk bins for storing matcha and chai for lattes were not clean, and the ice scoop storage bin in the back of the service counter was not clean.

Improper cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment and utensils: The inspector found edges of metal rolling racks that store donuts not clean, with food accumulation. Edges of the donut display were found to be not clean, with crumb accumulation noted.

Improper sanitary facilities and controls: The inspector found the drain tray in the iced coffee area not clean. The hand wash sinks in the back of the kitchen were noted draining slowly.

Improper sanitary facilities and controls: The inspector found both customer bathrooms not clean in general.

Improper construction and maintenance of physical facilities: The inspector found the floor in the walk-in cooler was not clean, with food debris under the shelving. The floor edges under and around the equipment were not clean throughout the kitchen.

No. 1 Kitchen

No. 1 Kitchen had eight violations, with one in critical condition.

Critical Condition: Improper cooling and refrigerated storage of potentially hazardous food

The inspector found approximately 5 lbs. of cooked chicken stored on the counter between 52-58 degrees Fahrenheit. The operator stated that the chicken was stored on the counter for less than two hours.

This was corrected and the chicken was moved to the cooler.

Poor sanitary design, construction, and installation of equipment and utensils: The inspector found a plastic bottle cut and being used as a scoop. This was corrected, and the bottle was thrown away.

Improper cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment and utensils: The inspector found lower shelving in the rear and exterior of equipment was not clean, with build-up.

This violation was found three times.

Improper sanitary facilities and controls: The inspector found the hand wash sink was not accessible and with a leaking drain. Soap and paper towels were not provided at the hand wash sink.

This violation was found two times.

Improper construction and maintenance of physical facilities: The inspector found floors under and around the cooking equipment with a lot of grease build-up and not clean.

Many locations passed their inspections between April 17 through 20.
