Student-Athlete of the Week: ESM’s Logan Welch

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) — With ESM’s season coming to a close, Logan Welch has had time to process his high school career.

“Just every single day, it completely flew by over the past four years. I remember my first game, everything that went wrong with the first game, all the nerves and now just kind of closing it out. It’s just surreal and but it’s been a great ride,” said Logan Welch.

The team leader in goals this season, the senior has grown up competing on the lacrosse field

“Ithink every game and practice is just different and it’s honestly just something like calming to me where I’ve been playing it for so long and I just have so much fun with the different aspects of how fast the game is, how you have to be creative, the team itself and everything is just so calming to me. So that’s my favorite thing. it’s been great,” said Welch.

And during his four years, Logan has been a role model to his teammates and coaches

“So he’s been all in these last four years and outstanding character, in just being grateful for the opportunity being appreciative of of of all the things that the coaches do, respecting players, coaches, opponents, just an outstanding young man,” said ESM Head Coach Jon McCoy.

While his time at the high school level is over, he will take the lessons he has learned here and bring them to the next level

“So over the years, I think just having a lot of great leaders and a lot of great players teaching you like there’s always somebody out there working harder than you and you need to keep working hard. And then also the leadership aspects of we preach little details and our Spartan standards and carrying that on to the next level will be helpful in training and all that,” said Welch.
