Student-Athlete of the Week: Central Square’s Melayna Miller

CENTRAL SQUARE, N.Y. (WSYR) — Melayna Miller has been on the lacrosse field since she was three years old.
“I just I’m a competitive person and I have good drive, so I want to work to get better. So I feel like that’s really driven me to want to work hard and become the player I am today,” said Melayna Miller.
A force at the draw control and Central Square’s leading scorer, Melayna has excelled with the Redhawks and is making sure the team is in a better place when she leaves.
“I mean, being one of the better teams the last few years, it just feels really good to like set a good example for the upcoming program, the upcoming players. I help with the ULA and I know a lot of like really hard working, a lot of good skilled girls are coming up, so I see such a bright future for the program for the next couple of years,” said Miller.
Staying close to home, she will be playing for Le Moyne next year a challenge that she is excited for.
For her to go to LeMoyne, the transition for LeMoyne to go to D1, I think Marlena was a little apprehensive about can I still compete? But, you know, after this year, we know she can still compete. And LeMoyne success, as Melina alluded to, is just a testament to the coaching staff there. And Melina knows she’s going to continue to improve and get better, to gain tremendous upside. So she’s she’s ready for the challenge of Division I,” said Central Square Head Coach Tyler Renaud.
“I feel so honored and I am so proud of myself and my own accomplishments. I feel like I’ve worked hard and I just am proud that I’ve gotten the opportunity to play for the next level,” said Miller.
