St. Lawrence County man charged with murder in death of Rensselaer Falls man


CANTON, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 50-year-old Ogdensburg man is facing second-degree murder charges in connection to the death of Rensselaer Falls man.
In a press release, St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua announced that John Free was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 58-year-old John Barr. Free was arraigned in the Gouverneur Town Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail without bail.
It’s alleged that Free is accused of intentionally causing the death of Barr at his home located at 12 Heuvelton St. in Rensselaer Falls by striking him in the head with blunt objects.
State Police found Barr after being dispatched to his home for a welfare check around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 16.
There will be a Preliminary Hearing scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. in Gouverneur Town Court.
