Remains of missing Sodus woman found, homicide investigation underway

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office launched a homicide investigation after remains found a few years ago belonged to a woman who has been missing for decades.

Christine Callanan, the acting District Attorney for Wayne County, confirmed remains that were found on Garner Road in the Town of Huron belonged to Judith Guerin, a woman who went missing in 1991. These remains were discovered by hunters back in 2020.

According to investigators, forensic evidence leads them to believe this was a homicide. The cause of her death has not been revealed.

Guerin went missing on February 20, 1991, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office took the case when a report was filed in 2006. All of her belongings were said to have been left behind.

“All information for my mother stopped in that winter of 1991,” Judith’s daughter, Amy, told News 8. “She never renewed her driver’s license, she never so much as ordered a pizza again. So that’s when they decided we can take a missing person’s report and start looking into this more in depth.”

Deputies are asking anyone with information is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at (315)-946-5800.

“No matter how insignificant you think a piece of information is, anything that you remember about my mother, her residence, where she lives, who she lived with, anything at all is positive,” Amy said.
