Rainy days this spring. Syracuse leads the pack of upstate cities

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — We all know we know we need April showers to bring May flowers and green things up, but at times it has been a little too rainy for many this spring! The question is, how many days has there been measurable rain this meteorological spring through May 14th for the bigger Upstate NY cities compared to the average?

1.) Syracuse: 42 days (6 weeks), or 6 days/nearly a week more than average, and 56% of days with rain. The highest number of days with rain during this time frame is 50 days way back in 1936.

2.) Buffalo: 39 days, or 5 days above average, and 52% of days with rain. The highest number of days with rain was 51 which occurred back in 2002.

3.) Rochester: 37 days, or just 2 days above average, and 49% of days with rain. The highest number of days with rain is 47 set back in 1929.

4.) Albany: 30 days, or only 1 day above average, and 40% of days with rain. The highest number of days with rain was 43 back in 1929.

Also, Syracuse has had 6 days in a row of measurable rainfall, only two less from being in the top 5 longest rainy stretches in May.
