Rain chances for CNY finally headed down

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – After a week of on and off rain, things are getting ready to change for central New York and that change is for the better! Check out the latest details below.

Rain tapers overnight

Steady rain has come to an end late this evening as low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic Coast starts to pull away. After midnight only a bit of drizzle will be left.

Outside of some patchy fog overnight, expect quiet conditions along with mild lows in the 50s

Nicer weather ahead?

Wednesday’s rain maker, stalled front and area of low pressure near the coast should slowly breakdown and shift far enough south and east so that CNY dries out for the most part Thursday.

Outside of a couple spotty showers, we will find some intervals of sunshine. Temperatures will also start to turn warmer as well, with highs on Thursday reaching the mid-70s.

An approaching cold front from the west may throw some showers into the area toward sunset Friday, but we may get through all of Friday dry. Highs will reach the upper-70s to around 80.

Weekend looking better

The weekend outlook has improved at this point too!

The front that brings us some late day showers Friday is falling apart by Saturday as high pressure at the surface is building in. With the front still close by (although weakened) we are going to keep some showers in for Saturday, but we have lowered the chances.

For Sunday we have even taken the chance for showers completely out and as high pressure holds into early next week so too should the dry weather.

This more optimistic forecast calls for more sunshine too, which should help push temperatures to 80 degrees or better.
