New York State Police investigate a drowning in Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. (WWTI) – New York State Police are investigating the drowning of a 32-year-old Albany, Ga. man on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 21.

Around 5 p.m. Wednesday, State Police members responded to Quarry Road in the town of Gouverneur for a report of a possible drowning. State troopers and members of the Underwater Recovery team arrived on scene.

They found Shawndre Sheffield and investigation revealed that he jumped off a small cliff into a pond. Sheffield then had trouble swimming back to shore and drowned.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine an official cause of death. At this time, there are no indications of any foul play.

This investigation is continuing at this time.
