Kurt Russell’s son helps create cocktail inspired by the Finger Lakes

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — While Richard Peete and Wyatt Russell are pros in the movie and entertainment business, they are now teaming up on a new canned cocktail brand that was inspired by the Finger Lakes.

Peete, is a film and commercial director, and producer, who grew up on Lake Canisius.

During the pandemic, he felt his time spent could be put towards creating. He wanted to make a drink that captured the aura and mood of being on a lake.

Thus, Peete’s wife got him together with Wyatt Russell — an actor, and son of Kurt Russell — and the two of them spent time sampling new drinks and seltzers. They wanted to find something light and unique, that would be the perfect fit for spending time at the lake.

Since Russell also grew up going to lakes in Canada, the two of them decided to get into the drink game and create “Lake Hour.”

The drink is a spirit-based canned cocktail with either a vodka or tequila.

There are currently four flavors available, including Honeysuckle Ginger, Peach Jasmine, which are vodka cocktails, and Rosemary Yuzu and Watermelon Cucumber, which are tequila cocktails.

Peete and Russell spent time sampling all sorts of flavors before they settled on what they thought were the four best. They specifically wanted unique and fresh flavors without artificial ingredients used in other hard seltzers and canned cocktails.

While trying to break into the beverage business can be difficult, with competition from popular drinks, such as White Claw, Truly and High Noon. Peete and Russell remain focused on their goal of trying to make a drink with the Americana feeling of being out on the lake, and celebrating a fun culture.

Right now, Lake Hour is still very much a mom-and-pop operation with all of the merchandise being shipped for Peete’s basement.

However, the pair just hired their first two workers to help them, and would certainly be happy if their drink can be disruptive in the beverage market.
