Investigation launched into missing money from Roxboro Road Middle School Parent Organization

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — An investigation has been launched into thousands of dollars that were possibly stolen from the Roxboro Road Middle School Parent Teacher Organization.

On Facebook on Thursday, May 23, the PTO said that after electing a new board in March, a review of the organization’s finances was done and missing funds were uncovered.

Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick said the amount could be between $35,000 to $50,000.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed it issued subpoenas for bank records.

The PTO is not managed by the North Syracuse Central School District.

The full statement on Facebook from the PTO can be seen below:

At our March 11th meeting, the Roxboro Road Middle School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) elected a new board of directors who subsequently conducted a review of the organization’s records and finances. Upon doing so, the board learned that some funds had been misappropriated while being overseen by a former PTO representative. The PTO board reported the discrepancy to school administration and law enforcement. At this time a full investigation is being conducted regarding one sole suspect, who is no longer part of the PTO.

We are devastated by the news and the effect that this will have on our student community.

The new board has worked to establish new PTO bylaws and is in the process of establishing new procedures. We continue to encourage all parents/guardians to get involved, come to meetings, and share ideas to help rebuild this PTO to be the best in the district.
