Dry start, but more showers on the way Monday

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – A little warm up on the way, but can we shake the shower threat? Check out the latest details below.

Some clear sky tonight

Tonight, there likely will be enough breaks in the clouds to potentially get a view of the northern lights.

Lows drop into the 40s to near 50 tonight, so be sure to have the hoodie and or jackets if you are going to see if you can see them.

Is this wet pattern ready to break?

Unfortunately, nope. The next in a series of frontal systems is moving out of the Great Lakes and headed toward Central New York for Monday into Tuesday. A warm front triggers new showers here by late morning and continue in a scattered fashion through the afternoon with possibly a t-storm towards evening.

Despite the showers, we should still be able to warm into the upper 60s to low 70s which would make Monday a seasonably mild day by mid-May standards.

After a few scattered evening showers/storm, Monday night is quiet, breezy and mild with lows in the mid to upper 50s.

The same storm system that pushes a warm front through later in the day Monday slowly pushes a cold front towards CNY Tuesday. This leads to some more showers and possibly a few t-storms mainly Tuesday afternoon.

It’s breezy, warmer and a bit muggier Tuesday too with highs warming to near 75.

Still dodging drops into midweek

The cold front mentioned above slowly sneaks through Tuesday night with a few more showers and unfortunately essentially stalls Wednesday not too far south and east of here. What does that mean? Thanks to a wave of low pressure moving up along the stalled front, it’s probably going to result in some additional showers being around for Wednesday, unless the front ends up farther south than we think it will be.

Highs Wednesday may struggle to get out of the 60s.

Possibly nicer for a day or two?

The rain maker for Wednesday should slowly breakdown and shift east enough so CNY dries out some at least Thursday, and possibly Friday too.

Highs should get up into the low 70s Thursday and well into the 70s Friday.
