Chilly tonight but then we begin a warm up

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) –Dry and sunny weather continues for central New York. When might some wet weather return? Details are below…
Staying cool again tonight
It looks like skies remain clear tonight as dry air and high pressure remains in control. As the wind dies down close to sunset, we expect our temperatures to drop quickly so it is another night with widespread 40s for lows. The typically colder outlying areas are looking at upper 30s to start the final day of May.

Warming trend begins Friday
After a chilly start, the 70s return Friday afternoon, and no we aren’t talking about the disco era. Central New York will be sun splashed once again as high pressure remains in control to round out the week. There could be a period of high clouds in the morning that filters the sunshine for a bit.

Feeling summery this weekend, but does it stay dry?
The start of the weekend and June looks great under more sun and a warmer high in the upper 70s to near 80!
The best chance for showers for the weekend looks to come on Sunday. The culprit is an area of low pressure developing over the Sothern Plains Thursday night then working northeast with showers and storms but weakening as it heads into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes Saturday.

While the dry air over us will further weaken this system, we are becoming more confident that at least a few of these showers will survive the trip into central New York Sunday. The precipitation Sunday will be light but plan on some showers from time to time.
With the extra cloud cover temperatures are not as warm on Sunday with highs only in the low to mid 70s.
There are still strong signs that we could heat up even more early to mid-next week back into the 80s! Stay tuned.
