Which food services passed or failed health inspection March 31 – April 6?

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Onondaga County Health Department released its inspection reports for restaurants checked from March 31 through April 6.

One food service failed its inspection:

• Xiong China Garden Chinese Restaurant – 8075 Oswego Road, Liverpool

One food service received an unsatisfactory inspection:

• Hotel Concord Syracuse – 6605 Old Collamer Road, East Syracuse

Xiong China Garden Chinese Restaurant

Xiong China Garden Chinese Restaurant had 10 violations, with two in critical condition.

Critical violation: Foods adulterated or received from unapproved sources

The inspector found one and a half cups of chopped garlic in oil on the cookline at room temperature, 69 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the employee, the garlic had been there since that morning (more than two hours). This was corrected and the product was voluntarily discarded.

Critical violation: Improper cooling and refrigerated storage of potentially hazardous foods

The inspector found three to four pounds of cooked chicken pieces on the cookline at 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the employee, the chicken was cooked about one and a half hours before the inspector arrived at room temperature storage. This was corrected and the chicken was put into refrigeration.

Food not protected in general: The inspector noted that cleavers, used for processing food, were stored between equipment, which is not a sanitary surface. This was corrected and the cleavers were removed and sent for washing and sanitizing.

Food not protected in general: The inspector noted several cases of single service items were stored on the floor in the storage area.

Poor sanitary design, construction, and installation of equipment and utensils: The inspector noted that the exteriors of fiberboard barrels storing bagged bulk foods (flour, etc) were not clean. The interior of one upright freezer had acrylic surfaces that were cracked and broken.

This violation was found two times.

Improper cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment and utensils: The inspector noted that wet wiping cloths were stored in various locations in the kitchen and not in sanitizer following use.

Improper cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment and utensils: The inspector noted that most lower and upper shelving was not clean. Most wire racks in the kitchen and walk-in cooler were rusty and not clean.

This violation was found two times.

Improper construction and maintenance of physical facilities: The inspector noted that most floor areas weren’t clean; primarily under equipment and racks and along baseboards.

Hotel Concord Syracuse

Hotel Concord Syracuse had six violations, none in critical condition.

Food not protected in general: The inspector found apples stored in the basket on the breakfast counter were not protected while on display. Cases of water were also stored
on the floor in the back storage area.

This violation was found two times.

Food not protected in general: The inspector noted that boxes of single service cups were stored on the floor in the dry storage area.

Poor sanitary design, construction, and installation of equipment and utensils: The inspector noted that the interior of the kitchen refrigerator was in poor repair as electrical tape was being used to hold food inside the door shelving.

Improper cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment and utensils: The inspector noted that the test strips used to check the disinfection level of the sanitizing solution in the three-bay sink could not be found. The general manager was also not on site for a discussion about this.

Improper sanitary facilities and controls: The inspector noted that the hand wash sink in the kitchen lacked paper towels.

Many locations passed their inspections between March 31 through April 6.
