Which food services passed or failed health inspection April 7-13?

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Onondaga County Health Department released its inspection reports for restaurants checked from April 7 through 13.

One food service failed its inspection:

• Steve’s Restaurant – 401 Milton Avenue, Syracuse

Steve’s Restaurant

Steve’s Restaurant had 10 violations, with one in critical condition.

Critical violation: Improper cooling and refrigerated storage of potentially hazardous foods

The inspector noted that the flip-top cooler in the kitchen was operating at 56-60 degrees Fahrenheit for an unknown amount of time.

The following foods were found in the cooler at these respective temperatures:

• 16.5 lb. pork shoulder butt roast 57’F
• 5 lbs. pork tenderloin 57’F
• 3.5 lbs. sour cream 57’F
• 2 lbs. Mexican cheese 57’F
• 3 cups tomato salsa 58’F
• One pan chopped lettuce 58’F
• 5 cups green salsa 58’F
• 10 cups cooked mixed peppers and onions 60’F
• 4 lbs. shredded chicken 58’F
• 5 lbs. cooked beans 60’F
• Miscellaneous glass bottles containing sauces, condiments or food additives 58F

All the food was voluntarily discarded and the cooler was taken out of service. Professional repair was contacted.

Food not protected in general: The inspector found glass bottles containing sauces, condiments and unknown food additives not properly labeled in the flip-top cooler. Plastic ice buckets used for consumable ice also did not have markings indicating its food-grade material.

This violation was found two times.

Food not protected in general: The inspector noted that the flip-top cooler lacked a monitoring thermometer.

Poor sanitary design, construction, and installation of equipment and utensils: The inspector noted that the poly cutting board on the flip-top cooler had heavy staining and cut marks.

Improper cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment and utensils: The inspector noted that the drain board on top of the ice machine storing the ice scoop was not clean.

Improper cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of equipment and utensils: The inspector noted that three of the glass doors on the cooler bottom shelf weren’t clean and contained mildew on other shelves. The bottom shelf of the kitchen upright refrigerator also wasn’t clean and had food soil. Th gas stove top also was noted with accumulated carbon deposits and the keg cooler in the basement had whitish mildew-like deposits on the keg lines.

This violation was found four times.

Many locations passed their inspections between April 7 through 13.
