Turbine farm meeting canceled due to fire code violation; Tully Residents disappointed

TULLY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Wednesday night’s, April 10, meeting about the creation of windfarms at the Tully Municipal Building was canceled due to a fire code violation because of high turnout.
It only lasted five minutes before Town Supervisor John Masters made the call.
“This meeting is happening at another date, and it will be posted on the town website,” Masters announced to the crowd.
A huge disappointment for those who showed up to learn more about a Boston company’s plan to build 20 to 25 turbines in Tully and Otisco.
“Not surprised because it’s kind of convenient that it gets canceled, and then there is more time to consider things, especially considering how many people came,” said Maria Swisher, a Tully resident, after the meeting.
Palmer Capital is still in the planning stages for its wind farm.
“What we are doing right now is collecting wind data,” said Sumul Shah, who was going to represent Palmer Capital at the meeting. “Based on the wind data we collect over the course of a year, about a year from now, we’ll be able to analyze the wind data and then select the perfect wind turbine model that matches the wind data we receive.”
It’s early, so Shah says the turbines could be anywhere from 100 to 640 feet high. He believes this area is the perfect landscape to harvest green energy.
“It’s windy here. We look at large-scale wind maps, and identified this as a windy location suitable for a wind energy project,” Shah said.
Nothing purchased yet, Palmer Capital has begun talking to property owners about leasing land.
“Part of the reason I moved out here was to have a lot of space and do what I want,” said Lisa Ross, who will have turbines built across the street from her. “Having a giant windmill right over there is not exactly what I was looking for when I moved out here.”
And they’re not getting the answers they were looking for, at least not now.
Palmer Capital says they estimate the project will be completed in 2027 or 2028.
