Student-Athlete of the Week: J-D’s Sam Brazell

DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR) — In his senior season of boys lacrosse for J-D, Sam Brazell plays with a chip on his shoulder.
“This is my last year here, and last year, we came a little bit short losing in the state championship game. So, hopefully, it will be a culmination of all four years of hard work and getting it done this year,” said Brazell.
But that loss has only fueled him
“So I think losing kind of like, as much as it sucks, it kind of helped this group because now this year’s group understands, like when we get there what it’s going to be like and, you know, we’re going there this year not to just get there. We’re going there to to win,” said Brazell.
Now Sam has even more drive to take this team to the next level.
“We like to compete and on game days, you know, that competition that we have inside of us like kind of comes out. So it’s just kind of a combination of our group success has allowed me to have individual success,” said Brazell.
But he knows success doesn’t come without putting in the work.
“Just that work ethic in the offseason and beginning season and continuing through like the regular season, I think that’s allowed us to be successful and allowed myself to be successful,” said Brazell.
“Well, really, he’s the heart and soul of the team. It’s it’s kind of a privilege as a coach to have your best player hard, hardworking, hardest working player and that’s definitely what Sam is. He’s been our hardest working player for four years and it’s contagious. That’s what makes him so important,” said Head Coach Jamie Archer.
In his final season of high school lacrosse, Sam is taking in every second with his teammates.
“So these are my best friends on the field, and I don’t want to leave here looking back with any regrets. So I’m going to make sure I enjoy every day and go have some fun,” said Brazell.
