Some frosty starts for central New York

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – Cooler weather and some frosty mornings in the short term but wait to you see what happens by the end of the weekend! Details are below…

Sun returns late this week but with some frosty starts

High pressure builds in quickly tonight into Thursday and sets the stage for a clear, calm and cold/frosty Wednesday night/Thursday morning followed by plenty of sun Thursday.

Yes, you’ll need that ice scraper come Thursday morning with lows dropping into the 20s for most late tonight into the start of Thursday and again Friday morning. Lows Thursday night/Friday morning should be in the 20s to near 30.

Record cold???

We don’t think so. The record lows for Thursday and Friday mornings are 19° and 21° respectively, both set back in 1919. So, the records should be safe, although the normally colder spots probably will dip into the teens, especially early Thursday!

Cool to seasonable

What about the highs? On Thursday, with wall-to-wall sun should bring us into the low to mid 50s, which won’t feel too bad with light winds.

On Friday, it feels quite nice as the warming trend continues with readings climbing into the 60s to round out the week!

Weekend warmup, but do we stay dry?

That warming trend will continue all throughout the weekend into Monday. Saturday starts out with a mix of sun and clouds, highs around the mid-60s. But a warm front moves in late Saturday afternoon out of the southwest bringing a little rain to end the day.

Looks even warmer with more dry time than not on Sunday with a spotty shower or thundershower possible with highs in the upper 70s. A very noticeable difference compared to Saturday, but wait till you feel what the start of next week has in store…
