Moyers Corners Fire Dept. remembering fallen officer

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Moyers Corners Fire Department members came together on Monday, April 15, to grieve one of its members.
The Moyers Corners Fire Department was left heartbroken after hearing that Michael Hoosock was shot and killed in the line of duty on Sunday, April 14.
“He’d give you the shirt off his back. He was that type of guy,” said Mike Brown, Moyers Corners Fire Department Chief.
Hoosock was a Lieutenant for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and active member of Moyers Corners before he died in a shooting Sunday evening on Darien Drive, in the Town of Salina.
“He was in the department almost 17 years, he got his paramedic, he joined the sheriff’s department when he was a member here. Like I said, I can’t say enough about him” said Brown.
Hoosock joined the department as a volunteer firefighter in 2007, making it his mission to protect the community.
“When they interviewed him to become a member, they asked him why he wanted to join the fire department, he said he wanted to help people,” said Brown.
Helping in so many ways, while also taking care of his wife, and three children all under the age of 10.
“Just one of those guys that would do anything and everything for you,” said Brown.
Black and purple memorial buntings are now hanging over the station’s bay doors at all four Moyers Corners Fire Departments. Members and former members came together Monday morning at station 3 to show their support for the man they all loved.
“Everyone I think is dealing with it in their own way. It’s going to be a lot of healing, a lot of talking, a lot of stress debrief,” said Brown.
His uniform, awards, and more are still standing at Hoosock’s locker at station 2, as friends, family and the community mourn our fallen hero.
