Missing Watertown teen found dead in St. Lawrence County


PITCAIRN, N.Y. (WWTI) – New York State Police said they’ve found a missing 18-year-old woman from Watertown dead in the woods in the St. Lawrence County town of Pitcairn.
Troopers stated in a press release that the body of Kayla Spencer was found in a wooded area off Jayville Road on Tuesday, April 2.
An autopsy will be performed at Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Forensic Pathologist, Doctor Scott Lapoint, on April 3, to determine the cause and manner of death.
State Police members from Troop B and D worked alongside the NY State Forest Rangers in an attempt to locate the missing 18-year-old. NYSP members and DEC Forest Rangers conducted a foot search in a wooded area off Jayville in the town of Pitcairn when a Forest Ranger located a deceased female. St. Lawrence County Coroner arrived on the scene and authorized the removal of the body.
Spencer was first reported missing around 11:50 p.m. Monday. Authorities then started a search for Spencer about one hour later.
The investigation is ongoing, and Troopers continue to ask anyone who has security cameras on Jayville Road or surrounding areas to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity. If anyone has any information regarding this incident are asked to call the State Police at 518-873-2776.
