Lobster Babe announces permanent closure after seasonal shutdown back in November

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Back in November of 2023, Westcott Seafood restaurant, Lobster Babe, closed down for the season.

On April 29, the restaurant posted on their Instagram that they have moved forward with the decision to not open back up.

Back in the fall, the restaurant known for wild lobster roll combinations was expecting to reopen come the warmer seasons. However, things have changed since.

“It was probably not the best fit for us. So with that, we will not be returning to 466 Westcott St.,” said Lobster Babe.

Danielle Mercuri, the owner of Lobster Babe, also owns other restaurants around CNY including, the popular Rise N Shine Diner located right next door to Lobster Babe, Lala Lu Ristorante on Carrier Circle, and LODED.

Mercuri spoke to NewsChannel 9 back in November 2022 about Lobster Babe, “It was an opportunity that we didn’t think was going to happen, nor did we ask. It was a friend of ours, Recess Coffee owned this place and he had asked, he would love for us to take over.”

Mercuri wrote a message on her own Instagram, commenting on the closure of her restaurant:

It’s just that time. Some businesses just don’t make the cut. It was a tough decision. I absolutely LOVE my @lobsterbabesyr but I just don’t think it’s meant to be a brick and mortar in Syracuse, New York. These are the tough decisions I really hate to do, but they have to be done to let the rest of the businesses soar. Thank you all for your amazing support and love for our cute little place called Lobster Babe, she was a blast! and who knows, she could make come back, iconic for those

Danielle Mercuri, Owner of Lobster Babe

Lobster Babe says that they will continue to do pop-ups and keep collaborating with LODED as their ghost kitchen, meaning they will do pick-ups and delivery apps.
