I-81 northbound to have weekend closures at the end of April

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The New York State Department of Transportation is letting drivers know that I-81 northbound will be closed for two weekends.

The closure will be from Exit 16A and the interchange with I-481 northbound in the City of Syracuse.

This will start at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, and end at 6 a.m. Monday, April 22. The closure will happen again at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, and end at 6 a.m. Monday, April 29.

According to the NYSDOT, the closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of a culvert as part of the Interstate 81 Viaduct Project.

Drivers are advised to follow the signed detour at Exit 16A that directs traffic to I-481 north, to Exit 1 (Brighton Ave Rock Cut Rd), to west on Rock Cut Road, to north on Brighton Avenue, to I-81 northbound.

Construction is dependent on weather and may change.

Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.
