Hundreds of first responders escort Onondaga County deputy’s casket to funeral home

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Nearly 100 emergency vehicles escorted the hearse carrying the body of the slain Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputy Monday evening.

The casket of Lieutenant Michael Hoosock was moved from the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office in Downtown Syracuse to the Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home off Buckley Road in the Town of Salina.

NewsChannel 9’s cameras captured moving footage from several locations, including from bridges over I-81.

Hoosock, a seasoned veteran of the sheriff’s office, was shot and killed Sunday night after being called to a home on Darien Drive.

The officer also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Moyer’s Corners Fire Department, which participated in a moving procession outside the hospital Sunday.

Many fire departments rose their ladders or hung flags over bridges Monday as the hearse passed underneath on I-81.

Hoosock was killed in the home’s backyard before the gunman, 33-year-old Christopher Murphy, moved through the living room and fired at Syracuse Police officers in his front yard.

Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen was also shot and killed.

Even while taking on fire, officers shot and killed the suspect.

Funeral plans have not been announced for either officer.
