Go for a hike and view the lights to celebrate 100 years of NYS Parks at Taughannock Falls


TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. (WETM) – NYS Parks staff, Visit Ithaca and the Tompkins Chamber will be hosting a three-day event to honor the anniversary of the formation of the New York State Park System next week at Taughannock Falls in Trumansburg.
For the duration of the event, which will take place on April 18, 19 and 20, Taughannock Falls will be lit up and viewable from the overlook each evening between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Guided hikes will take place on the Gorge Trail up to the base of the waterfall each night, departing the Gorge Trail parking lot at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Those who choose to go on the hikes are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and shoes and to bring their own flashlight. Dogs on leashes are allowed to join the hike as well.
Registration for the hikes is free but are limited to 100 people per hiking group. You can register for one of the hikes online on the Tompkins Chamber website.
