Eclipse traveler dead after flying out of trailer in Jefferson County

BROWNVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — New York State Police were called around 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, to Brownville for a person who fell out of a moving trailer.

NYSP came to State Route 12E and saw a pickup truck driven by Robert Woroniecki, a 59-year-old from Stony Brook, who was pulling a house trailer.

The driver’s wife, Monika Woroniecki, 58, and other family members were riding in the trailer for the last 20 minutes of the trip from Stony Brook, State Police say.

Witnesses say the wind caused the passenger side door of the trailer to swing open, and Monika was thrown from the trailer.

She then hit her head on the shoulder of the road. Monika was taken to Samaritan Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

State Police say they were traveling up to a campsite from Stony Brook to see the solar eclipse.

The investigation is ongoing, NYSP said.
